MERIDIAN, Idaho (CBS2) — The Sizzler Restaurant in Meridian has announced it will close its doors for good on Sept. 24.

Local owners Gretchen and Buster have owned and operated the Sizzler for 17 years. They say the current labor costs, shortages, food prices and supply chain issues have led to this decision.

Love’s has hit Jackpot.

The national chain of Travel Stops opened its seventh location in Nevada on Thursday in the Highway 93 border town between Elko and Twin Falls. A Subway restaurant inside the 9,000-square-foot convenience center will open on Labor Day.

Located at Highway 93 and Progressive Drive, Love’s features parking for 31 trucks, 22 cars and four RVs, according to a news release. There are five diesel bays, plus four showers and laundry facilities.

Idaho Fish and Game is asking anglers to keep all walleye caught in the Snake River.

The non-native voracious predator feeds on protected juvenile salmon and steelhead.  The first walleye caught in the fish trap at Lower Granite Dam South of Colfax in Washington was in 2016.

IDFG says it does appear to be a Salmon Shark. Salmon Sharks can grow up to 10 feet long and weigh up to almost 1,000 pounds. As indicated by its name, Salmon Sharks like to feed on salmon.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Idaho Governor Brad Little held a water summit in Boise earlier this week where water managers and state leaders discussed trends and issues regarding Idaho’s’ water supply.

One area of improvement mentioned was the use of available aquifers to store water.

Particularly the eastern snake plain aquifer which is where most of southern Idaho pulls their water from.

Jay Barlogi of the Twin Falls canal company, who spoke during Monday’s meeting said that the water levels in the eastern snake plain aquifer are at historically low levels.

FRUITLAND, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Police have made contact with two people wanted for questioning in the search for missing Fruitland boy Michael Vaughan.

Brandon Shurtliff of Kuna, and Adrien Lucienne of Toledo, Ohio, were reportedly at one time staying at the house where police searched for Michael’s remains last month.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Idaho Transportation Department will begin aerial surveys to look into the possibility of a future bridge crossing the Snake River.

The survey will begin next week and is related to an upcoming study to determine the feasibility of a future Snake River crossing in the region.

Part of the survey will paint ground targets on city streets to serve as reference points and provide an elevation and location to compare with all gathered survey points.

HAGERMAN, Idaho (CBS2) — A large church fire has been reported in the small town of Hagerman.

Details are limited, but CBS2 has learned the fire at the Hagerman Christian Center started at about 8 p.m. Multiple fire agencies and police have responded to the scene.
